We believe you should always be in control of your data. If you’ve decided that it’s time to move on, we’ve made it straightforward to delete your account directly from the app – no need to email support or fill out a form. This guide walks you through everything you need to know about deleting your Everspruce account on both iOS and Android. Making this easy is just another reason why Everspruce is the best home inventory app.
Please read this guide carefully before starting the process. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once your account is deleted, we are unable to recover any of the data associated with it – including your zones, areas, boxes, items, and photos. There is no grace period and no undo button, so make sure you’re certain before you begin.
Before You Begin
There are a few things to keep in mind before you start the deletion process:
- You need an active internet connection. Account deletion involves removing your data from our servers, so the app needs to be online for the entire process. If you lose your connection partway through, the deletion may not complete and you’ll need to try again.
- This feature is available to all signed-in users. If you signed up with an email address, Facebook, or Apple account, you can delete your account using the steps below. If you’re using the app as a guest (without creating an account), the delete option won’t appear since there is no permanent account to remove.
- You will need to verify your identity. As a security measure, Everspruce will ask you to re-authenticate before the deletion goes through. Depending on how you signed up, this means entering your password or signing in again through Facebook or Apple. This step ensures that only you can delete your account.
Preparing Your Zones
If you’re an admin of any zones in Everspruce, there are important steps you need to complete before you can delete your account. The specific requirements depend on how many zones you administer.
If you’re an admin of multiple zones, you’ll need to reduce that number to one or zero before the app will let you proceed. You can do this in two ways: delete all entries within a zone (which removes your need to manage it), or transfer admin rights for that zone to another user. You can mix and match – for example, transfer one zone to a family member and delete the entries in another. The key is that you cannot have more than one admin zone when you start the deletion process.
If you’re an admin of exactly one zone, that zone must have zero active entries before you can delete your account. This means all areas, boxes, and items need to be removed first. The app will check for remaining entries and will not allow you to proceed until the zone is empty.
These rules exist to protect shared data. Since zones can have multiple users, we want to make sure that deleting your account doesn’t accidentally wipe out inventory that other people in your household or team still rely on. By asking you to handle your zones first, we give you the chance to decide what to do with that data – whether that means handing it off to someone else or confirming it’s no longer needed.
How to bulk-delete entries quickly: You don’t have to delete items one by one. Navigate to any Area or Box detail page, tap OPTIONS, and then select DELETE ENTRIES IN THIS AREA or DELETE ENTRIES IN THIS BOX. This lets you clear out large sections of your inventory in just a few taps.
If you’re not an admin of any zones – for example, if you only have editor or viewer access to someone else’s zone – you can skip this step entirely. Your account can be deleted right away without any entry cleanup, since the zones you participate in belong to someone else and won’t be affected.
Step-by-Step: Deleting Your Account
Once you’ve prepared your zones (or confirmed you don’t need to), follow these steps to delete your account:
Step 1: Open your user details
Open the Everspruce app and go to Settings. From there, tap Manage Users. You’ll see a list of users associated with your zone. Tap on your own name to open your user detail page. You can also reach this screen by going to your Zone’s detail page and tapping Manage Users from there.
Step 2: Tap “Delete Account”
On your user detail page, scroll down to find the Delete Account option. This option only appears when you’re viewing your own profile – you won’t see it on anyone else’s user detail page.
Step 3: Confirm by typing DELETE
After tapping Delete Account, the app will display a warning message reminding you that this action is permanent and cannot be undone. To confirm that you understand, you’ll need to type the word DELETE into a text field. This can be typed in uppercase, lowercase, or any mix – the app isn’t case-sensitive here. If you decide you’ve changed your mind at this point, simply tap Cancel to back out safely.
Step 4: Re-authenticate your identity
As a final security check, the app will ask you to verify that you are the account owner. What this looks like depends on how you originally signed up:
- Email accounts: You’ll be prompted to enter your password.
- Facebook accounts: The Facebook login screen will appear and you’ll need to sign in through Facebook.
- Apple accounts: The Sign in with Apple prompt will appear and you’ll need to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.
Step 5: Deletion completes
Once you’ve successfully re-authenticated, the app will remove your account data and sign you out. You’ll be returned to the login screen. At this point, your account has been permanently deleted.
What Happens When Your Account Is Deleted
Here’s a summary of what the deletion process removes:
- Your user profile is permanently removed from Everspruce’s servers.
- Any zones you administered are deleted. This means the zone itself is removed – other users who had access to that zone will no longer be able to see it.
- Your membership in other users’ zones is removed. If you were an editor or viewer on someone else’s zone, your name will be removed from their user list. Their zone and its data will remain intact.
- All local data on your device is cleared, including cached inventory data and any photos stored locally by the app.
- You are signed out of the app completely, including any connected Facebook session.
After deletion, you will not be able to sign back into your old account or retrieve any data that was associated with it. If you ever want to use Everspruce again in the future, you would need to create a brand-new account.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I undo account deletion?
No. Once your account is deleted, it cannot be recovered. All data associated with your account is permanently removed. We strongly recommend making sure you no longer need any of your inventory data before proceeding.
I got an error saying I still have entries in my zone. What do I do?
This means you’re an admin of a zone that still contains areas, boxes, or items. You’ll need to delete all entries in that zone before the app will allow you to delete your account. Use the bulk-delete feature described above to speed things up: go to any Area or Box detail page, tap OPTIONS, then DELETE ENTRIES IN THIS AREA or DELETE ENTRIES IN THIS BOX.
I’m an admin of multiple zones. What do I need to do?
You’ll need to get down to one or zero admin zones before the app will let you proceed. For each extra zone, you can either delete all its entries or transfer admin rights to another user. Once you’re down to at most one admin zone (with zero entries), you’ll be able to continue with account deletion.
I only have editor or viewer access to someone else’s zone. Can I still delete my account?
Yes. If you’re not an admin of any zones, you can delete your account immediately without needing to remove any entries. Your departure won’t affect the zones you had access to – they’ll continue to exist under their admin’s ownership, and your name will simply be removed from the user list.
What if I lose internet during the deletion process?
You need a stable internet connection for the entire deletion process. If your connection drops, the process may not complete. Simply reconnect and try again from the beginning. Your account won’t be left in a partially deleted state – either the full process completes successfully or it doesn’t go through at all.
I forgot my password and can’t re-authenticate. What should I do?
If you signed up with an email and password but can’t remember your password, use the Reset Password option on your user detail page to set a new one before attempting to delete your account. Once you’ve reset your password, you can proceed with the deletion steps above.
Will other users in my zone know I deleted my account?
Other users won’t receive a notification, but they will notice the changes. If you were an admin, your zone will no longer be accessible to anyone. If you were an editor or viewer, your name will disappear from the zone’s user list.
